Consensus seems to be that the gamepad controls work pretty well and the all the features and core functionality of the game remain intact. Combine that with a few frustrating changes to how paths are created and such, and you have an experience that is still subpar to RCT2. While I haven't personally played the console version, I am pretty tapped into the Planet Coaster community so I am aware of many of the details of that version. The elaborate buildings, scenery, and attractions people are creating is amazing, and the building tools in the game are still limited compared to what will be in the final release. I choke it up to the presentation, the Sandbox world looks so empty compared to the RCT scenarios, while the career maps are way too cluttered for me in Planet Coaster. If you want to build your dream virtual theme park, this is the game to do it in. This is not nostalgia talking, I can boot up OpenRCT2 any day and pump in hours, while the minutes drag on in Planet Coaster. With RCT2 there was this Civ 5 like addiction to keep going, with Planet Coaster I am sort of struggling to really get any motivation to do anything. Frontier had previously worked in the amusement park construction and management genre with RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 (to which Planet Coaster is a spiritual successor), Thrillville, Thrillville: Off the Rails.
